She was cheered by critics around the world for her hard hitting role in True Grit, but child star Hailee Steinfeld has revealed outside Hollywood she was the target of bullies.
At just 14, Hailee was the toast of the town and even received an Oscar nomination, but two years on the star has told how to play the role she had to overcome years of torment.
Now 16, the Californian actress opened up to Glamour magazine in its new June issue.

'I still go through it.
'And if I can be the person who says, ''Trust me when I tell you it will be OK,'' then I will be that person.'
Showing maturity beyond her years when asked by editor-in-chief Cindi Leive what she would now say to the bullies, Hailee was respectful of what bullies go through to.
'Often bullies are taking something [personal] out on others. If they use that energy to make someone smile, we can save so many people in the long run,' the teen said.
But while Hailee may have suffered tough times, the star has certainly turned that into success as she has five movies in production right now, including a new version of Romeo and Juliet.
the star admitted it is intimidating stepping into Juliette Capulet's iconic shoes but it does have its perks - namely Hailee got to pick her own Romeo, 20-year-old English actor Douglas Booth.
'It was definitely scary - I mean, it’s Shakespeare. I was attached early on, so I was part of the casting process with Romeo.'

With all these movies filming back to back the teenager says she does get homesick.
'I’m away from home for six weeks at a time, sometimes more, and it’s tough when I miss my Dad. But he always says to me, ''Are you having a good time?'' And I really am. That’s why I’m here.'
And the industry has definitely noticed, as she was just named 2013 Women in Film Max Mara Face of the Future - the award's previous winners include Katie Holmes and Zoë Saldana.
