She looks the part! Carey Mulligan appears every inch the modern socialite as she steps out to promote Gatsby in dramatic grey cape

She is currently promoting Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby, in which she stars as Daisy Buchanan.
And Carrie Mulligan looked every inch the stylish socialite as she headed to an appearance in New York City.
The London-born beauty turned heads in an eye-catching dove grey cape layered over a belted navy sheath dress.

Carrie, 27, completed the glamorous ensemble with a pair of peep-toe Louboutin heels and basic black sunglasses.
The Drive actress swept her platinum tresses into a loose knot and accentuated her delicate features with neutral makeup.
Absent from the star's look was jewellery, which she may be avoiding after unfortunately breaking a £200,000 Tiffany pearl necklace on the set of The Great Gatsby.

Professional commitments: Carey currently is on the promotional circuit for The Great Gatsby, which will open in U.S. theatres on May 10 and in U.K. theatres on May 16

Carrie recently revealed of the incident: ‘I wore a pearl necklace around my wrist and I broke it. They went everywhere. I’ve never seen  a group of people react so fast. 
‘It was like 15 people fell to the floor because they were real pearls. I thought I  was going to get fired, but I survived.’
She told the Detroit Free Press of filming the period drama in such enviable pieces: 'To be wearing literally millions of dollars worth of jewelry every day really lends a quality of elegance, in a way. You feel very kind of expensive when you’re walking about. I’ve never experienced anything like it.'
The Shame stunner also described her apprehension over taking on the iconic role: 'I’ve never played someone who people feel the way that they do about Daisy in the novel, so that was daunting to a degree.

'Yeah, it was sort of a challenge, in the performance and also physically. To be described as the king’s daughter and the golden girl, it sets the bar pretty high.'
Still, Carrie, who is married to Mumford & Sons musician Marcus Mumford, admits the pressure will lift once she steps out of the spotlight.
She confessed: 'When I’m back in London living my normal life, that world doesn’t really affect me. I’m never recognized. I’m recognized maybe once a year.
'Now, because of Gatsby at the moment, because I’m on magazine covers, I get a few more people recognizing me. But generally, I just kind of walk around completely left alone.'
