But one person who wanted to make sure he also got noticed was former President Bill Clinton.
The 42nd President of the United States seized his opportunity during a performance by Kelly Clarkson.
A snap of the 66-year-old ‘photo bombing’ the American Idol star ended up on Twitter and quickly went viral.
Clarkson, 30, performed My Country ‘Tis Of Thee at Obama and Vice President Joe Biden's swearing in ceremony after Obama took the oath of office.
Her fiancé Brandon Blackstock was there to support his bride-to-be and quash any nerves she might have before getting behind the microphone, although she still remained a little fearful.
‘Wow ....I was incredibly nervous and cold ha!’ Clarkson tweeted after the ceremony, before joking: ‘I just wanna officially thank President Obama for opening for me haha! Just kidding.’
The singer, who was joined by her rapper husband Jay-Z, made a grand entrance and looked incredible in her figure-hugging lacy black fishtail gown.
Beyoncé and Clarkson also took the opportunity to catch up during the jam-packed day and Clarkson couldn’t help but gush about how stunning Beyoncé looked.
'Me and B just hangin' out ....don't worry about it,' she wrote. 'Seriously, God did good. She is so beautiful!'
Clarkson once said she was a fan of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, but she says she voted for Obama twice.
Meanwhile Beyoncé is famously one of Obama’s most high-profile supporters.
She wrote a letter of praise for him ahead of last November's US presidential election, in which she credited him with inspiring the future generation, including her own daughter.
'You are the reason my daughter and nephew will grow up knowing that they can truly be ANYTHING they want to be. All my respect and adoration, Beyonce.'
There were plenty of other stars supporting their President at the event, with Katy Perry, John Mayer and Eva Longoria also in attendance.
