Wenger FINALLY buys as Arsenal manager lands £8.3m Malaga defender Monreal

Arsenal pulled off a coup with an £8.3million move for Malaga left back Nacho Monreal while manager Arsene Wenger will revive his interest in Barcelona striker David Villa in the summer.

The 26-year-old arrived in London to complete his move to the Emirates Stadium after Gunners officials finalised the deal with Malaga officials in the afternoon.
Sportsmail revealed how Wenger would make a move for a new left-back on transfer deadline day after Kieran Gibbs was ruled out for three weeks with a thigh injury.

And Monreal will help soften Wenger's injury concerns in the problem position as he enters a crucial period in the season.

The defender has signed a four-and-a-half year deal worth in the region of £50,000-per-week.
Wenger told the club website: 'We are delighted that Nacho Monreal has agreed to join us. We have been monitoring him for some time now and are really pleased that we’ve been able to agree this move today.
'Monreal is a strong left-sided defender with good experience at both club and international level. He is a technically gifted player, a good crosser in the final third and strong in the air. Monreal will add quality to our squad and of course, to our defensive unit. We all look forward to him playing for us.'
In a meeting at the club's London Colney HQ on Monday, Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis agreed they would not pursue any players, apart from Villa, during the closing stages of the transfer window.

However, Gibbs' injury in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool on Tuesday night forced the pair in a rethink, resulting in the capture of Monreal.

The full-back arrives in the Premier League with an impressive reputation from his native Spain.
Monreal, a former Osasuna academy graduate, signed for Malaga for £6million in 2011 after making an impression with his hometown club, for whom he made 127 appearances.
He made his debut for Spain in a 2009 friendly against Macedonia and has gone on to win nine caps for the national side.

Monrea has also been compared to Barcelona's excellent left-back Jordi Alba.
Wenger's quick decision to sign a new left-back stems from fears over the form of Andre Santos, Gibbs' replacement.

The Brazil left-back has proved error-prone since his arrival from Fenerbache last season, so much so that Wenger even looked at remoulding Santos into a winger in pre-season.

And it is clear that Wenger feels the prospect of going into the next three weeks with Santos as his only recognised left-back as too risky.
However, Monreal will be ineligible for Arsenal's Champions League double-header against Bayern Munich. 

Wenger is likely to partner Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker in central-defence and shift Thomas Vermaelen out to left-back for the clash against the German giants.

Wenger still harboured small hope of clinching a deal to bring Villa to London. But it became clear their top January target would not be obtainable by mid-morning as Barcelona continued to resist Arsenal's overtures.

Tissot PRS 516 Retrograde

It is no secret that I really like cars, but did you know that I am also keen on watches? You likely did not as I have yet to write on the subject or elude to my timepiece aficionado status. Let's go ahead and change that with a full review of the Tissot PRS 516 Retrograde after the jump.
 
I feel that a watch, much like driving shoes, is a personal and subjective endeavour. Sure a watch needs to tell time, but it also tells others about you. It need not be flashy or even expensive to convey feelings of style and function.

I personally am partial to chronographs, being a product of the digital age I like the extra dials and movement. I enjoy timing the duration a boring professor's lecture (last night it was 2 hours and 43 minutes) or how long it takes a State Trooper to write me a speeding ticket (13 minutes flat).

I own about a dozen watches and wear very few of them. The majority of my "higher end" collection were gifts and thusly hold sentimental value so they are relegated to the dark confines of my safety deposit box. This makes me a fan of pieces that retail for less than 1k. It is not hard to find watches at this price point on sale as they often have an already artificially inflated MSRP.

The beauty of this price range is that there are a ton of good manufactures making watches at this price level, there are but only a handful of watch makers in the 20k+ range. A watch priced around 350-1k is desirable as it hovers around the outermost ring of pretentiousness while not inviting street thugs to roll you in a dark alley or unlit parking ramp.

This brings us to the subject of this review, the Tissot PRS 516 Retrograde. The PRS 516 has a stainless case and bracelet, quartz movement, water resistance to fifty meters and has a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The piece also boasts 3 sub-dials used to track hours, minutes and seconds in addition to a date-calender window.

The look of the face of the PRS 516 is pure race-car inspired with checkered flag accents and bold chrono features. The automotive styling cues are anything but subtle.

Tissot also make a Nascar watch, a timepiece so hideous I doubt it will grace a wrist connected to even the reddest of necks. Also, Tissot is part of Swatch group. You recall Swatch don't you? I still hold Swatch in contempt for making those awful day-glow watches on the wrist of every teenybopper mallrat. Both of these factors dimish and hinder the PRS 516 potential for greatness.

All that being said, the PRS 516 looks nice on my wrist, I have received many compliments on it and it is now part of my watch rotation. It is often commented on by strangers and I welcome the attention of others being drawn to my skinny wrist rather than my multiple chins.

Tissot PRS 516 Watch Hands-On

Other than displaying the time, date and chronograph instruments, a watch says a lot about the person who wears it. Since way back when, timepieces were and still continue to be an important accessory one can wear. And although you may wear a fancy watch, you'll end up reaching for your smartphone to tell the time more often than not. It's a habit that came to be as a result of modern society. But some of us feel weirdly incomplete without wearing one. And we're not ashamed to admit that we too reach deep into our pockets for that conveniently back-lit digital clock that just so happens to be our everything device.
Our hands-on today includes the Swiss-made PRS 516 watch by a company called Tissot. You may or may not recall the name immediately, but chances are that you've seen one of their watches at a watch boutique and just about everywhere watches are sold. Tissot PRS has been around for years and they've been in the Swiss watch making biz since 1853, which is proudly stamped on every watch face Tissot makes.
Tissot watches are known to be in the affordable category as far as known brand named watched are concerned. The PRS 516, which our friends at Ticwatches kindly let us get our hands on, is actually a part of an entire series of Tissot's Sport lineup which includes a magnitude of styles and color flavors. This particular PRS 516 model we've got here is the T0444172105100 that retails for $550, or at a more pleasant $330 over at Ticwatches. Tissot's PRS 516 is a chronograph watch with a quartz movement that features a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal surrounded by a beautiful black metal tachymeter bezel (static), and can submerged under water down to depths of 330ft/100m.
Attached is a rather bold looking stainless steel wrist strap finished off with a subtle brushed metal finish and high-polished trimmed edges throughout the watch casing, strap, chrono and crown buttons. The dial on this model is black contrasted with flaming red hands that give this watch its sporty, speedometer-like style that we really like. You can also get this same exact model with a white dial and black bezel for a more brighter color scheme. It has a 43mm case diameter that wears nicely on your wrist without looking too big or too small.

This watch is without a shadow of a doubt classy, yet it's also flashy at the same time. You have those three circular chrono sub dials that have a high level of polish which reflects light surrounding you very brightly. This probably isn't the ideal casual watch for day-to-day use as its quite hefty. Besides having chrono dials, there's a small date display, a must on any watch.
The PRS 516 is a proper analog men's watch (sorry there ladies), with that very familiar sporty watch design inspired by 1960s motorsport racing. It even has a steering wheel stamped on its case back. By no means is this a unique watch, but it's not a boring one either. In fact, we actually think the PRS 516 has a lot going on. That numeral-less watch face is very much legible, however, we're afraid to say that when night falls, you won't see a thing. While there are plenty of luminescent indicators, the don't shine quite as bright as we'd hoped. What's more is that if you take using the chronograph seriously, the PRS 516 isn't the most accurate watch to be using for such purpose. We tried retuning it, but it seems to be off my a hair.

Taking a closer look at the quality of the PRS 516, one will notice that while the build quality is adequate, the craftsmanship is not up to par with a watch that costs upwards of $1,000. Now granted you're paying half that much for the PRS 516, and for what you end up paying you won't be disappointed by the quality of construction. In other words, you're not getting more than you pay for. It's worth noting that the black bezel doesn't have a fine finish to it and is prone to scuffing. The watch feels solid and quite heavy for a 43mm size, so that's something to take note of. The chrono push buttons are large and easy to press with great tactile response given by them.

If you're looking for a classy dress watch with some eye-catching oumph to it, the Tissot PRS 516 is an affordable choice we would recommend you take a look at for $330. If it was up to us, we would look for something else instead of paying full retail price for the PRS 516.

The famous redhead, who often brings her girls with her on the set of HIMYM, was relieved that Satyana has accepted the role of big sister so well.

'The other day [Satyana] was hugging [Keeva] so hard I was like, "I think her head might pop off." I don’t want to be like, "Ooh!" because I don’t want her to have a complex about her sister,' the American Pie star told Peoplemagazine last month.

'But I’m like, "Oh you know, I don’t know if she can really breathe right now! That might just be a little too hard," and Keeva’s just as happy as [can be]. It’s so great.'
